Colonoscopy

An outpatient procedure that allows the gastroenterologist to view the inner lining of the large intestine in order to screen for cancer or precancerous growths in the colon or rectum. The procedure can also help to find areas of inflammation or bleeding. Abnormal growths can be removed and tissue samples (biopsies) can be collected for analysis.

Gastroscopy

This outpatient test is used when screening for gastric/stomach cancer and/or ulcers. During the test, the gastroenterologist examines the esophagus and stomach using a thin, lighted tube called a gastroscope, which is passed through the mouth to the stomach. The test is performed to identify abnormal areas within the stomach and extract tissue for a biopsy.

Non-Surgical Hemorrhoid Removal

A hemorrhoid is a collection of swollen tissue and blood vessels in the lower rectum or anus. Itchiness, pain and general discomfort are often symptoms of hemorrhoids that recur until the hemorrhoids are removed. At VIGI, Dr. Goldman uses the CRH O’Regan System™, a patented device designed for non-surgical removal of hemorrhoids. This device is utilized to cut off blood flow to the hemorrhoids, causing them to shrink and fall off soon thereafter.

The CRH O’ Regan System™ treats grades 1 and 2 and some grade 3 internal hemorrhoids and can be safely administered in our facility without prep (no anesthesia or fasting), surgery or pain. The procedure often takes less than a minute and most patients return to normal activities the same day. Patients typically require one treatment every two weeks for a total of three treatments. 99% of patients who receive this treatment achieve successful removal of hemorrhoids without surgery. Pill Camera/Patency Capsule Endoscopy Procedures

Also known as “pill cam,” these procedures involve the use of a “pill-sized” camera that the patient swallows. As the pill camera makes it way through the patient’s digestive tract, the pill cam takes pictures of the esophagus and/or small bowel and then is naturally passed through the body. The resulting images can be used to diagnose the causes of esophageal disorders and digestive problems like celiac disease, Crohn’s disease, ulcers and tumors.

Upper Endoscopy

This outpatient test is often performed to determine the causes of heartburn, GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease), abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, bleeding and/or swallowing disorders. During the test, the gastroenterologist examines the upper digestive system (esophagus, stomach and first part of the small intestine) using a thin scope with a light and camera. An upper endoscopy can help to identify inflammation, ulcers and tumors.
